BIOGRAPHY
This Calcutta based commerce graduate model came into limelight when she won Ford Supermodels Contest. At 17, Bipasha won the famous Ford Supermodel Contest and was flown to New York by the Ford people. Life was exciting! She gushes, “I was spotted by the world famous photographer, Steven Mizhel, and featured in Vogue magazine. I was thrilled and soon had plenty of projects coming my way.” Bipasha could have had the world at her feet and easily gained acclaim as an international model, but she gave it all up for India... to come down and be with the people she loves. “Yeah, I did a lot of ads, but my heart was not in it. I started missing my family because it was the first time I was away from them. So I happily gave it all up and came down to India”, she reminisces.
Hardly had Bipasha landed in India, and she was inundated with offers from all over. Ads, she accepted, but films were the last thing she planned to venture into. She had no plans of joining the film industry but one day, film-maker J. P. Dutta telephoned her with an offer. It was for a ‘perfect’ role in Aakhri Mughal. Bipasha took it up without a murmur. Later, when it was shelved, and Refugee was launched, she refused the role. “Not because it was opposite Sunil Shetty, as rumours go,” informs Bipasha, “but because I didn’t identify with the character. I don’t think I would have looked convincing as a 13 year old!”
This Bengali bombshell was bold enough to accept an unusual role in her debut film, Abbas-Mustan’s Ajnabee, with Bobby Deol, Akshay Kumar & Kareena Kapoor. She played a married woman who goes all out to woo her husband’s married friend. About her image of being sexy, she shrugs, “Sexy in India, is not considered positive. But, with today’s crop of fresh faces, in the modelling arena, being sexy is an asset, so let’s hope for the best. I’m often asked if my image has tempted industry men to make a pass at me. The answer is, ‘No’! And, if anyone dares try it, I’ll knock the daylights out of him.”
The light-eyed Bipasha, also the Tulips Miss Super Vivacious in the same contest, said, "I can't believe it. It felt out of the world. I knew I was good, but I am surprised." While she knew she was good enough for the finals, Bipasha found her spirits sagging as her very advantage — her eyes — caught an infection on the morning of the event. "I was very worried. I went to an eye specialist, and I called home and spoke to my mom and dad. I became my mom's baby."
Coaxed into participating for the zonal rounds by a friend, she said, "I cannot boast about my figure because I have not worked on it. My eyes are my strong feature. Whatever I am, it's because of Mehr Jesia. She is my godmother. My mom and dad said, you don't have to win. It doesn't matter. Just do what you want."
She recalls that till the age of 14 she was considered to be a very ugly child and after that she blossomed into a true beauty.

She was a household name much before she entered films. Besides doing innumerable prestigious ads, Bips, as her friends call her, did the famous video ‘Tu...’ for Sonu Nigam’s album, Kismat. Mention of the assignment does not bring a smile to her lips. She explains it with, “Initially I was extremely excited, but when I saw the results, I was very disappointed. It was different from what was narrated to me. Anyway, that was long ago, and doesn’t affect me anymore. I have many new and interesting things to look forward to.”

Quotes by other celebrities
John Mahendran (Director)
Basically, Sachin is a soft love story where I wanted an exciting element in the film. Then, we thought of Bipasha Basu. Expectations from the audience would then be high. Finally, she has become a very important character in the film. She is not there for an item number. She has a strong role in the film.

Kay Kay Menon (Actor)
Bipasha comes from a different stream of cinema. I was completely surprised and impressed by the way she carried out those emotions on her face, through her eyes. She could hold a frame without speaking a line, which shows the expertise of an actress. People might say she relates to glamour part of cinema but when it comes to performing especially in Corporate she can hold a frame without speaking a line. That is what good actors can do.

Minnisha Lamba (Actress)
She is like a dream. You have seen her in the most glamorous roles, sizzling on screen. Trust me, even in corporate suits, she looks equally hot. She is a very chilled out person. She sits on the sets with everyone and jokes and laughs. She knows everyone by their first name. She knows people's backgrounds and takes interest in people with whom she is working. She also takes interest in conversations and gets to know that person. While sharing screen space with her, I think the winner at the end will be the narrative.

Katrina Kaif has a buzz about her. She has this gravitational pull that defies all laws. She grew up in Hawaii, moved to London and is now so happy that she has struck a good wicket that she has made Mumbai her base. India is where she will be for a while and she doesn't mind singing and dancing around trees in Bollywood while she's at it.

One of eight sisters, Katrina was born to a Kashmiri father and English mother. She started modeling by accident when she was in Hawaii. She was 14 and she was approached for a jewellery campaign. After that she continued modelling in London. Even though she was brought up in London, moving to Mumbai was not a culture shock. Katrina's philosophy is that no matter what part of the globe you come from, at the end of the day every person just wants to be loved and cared for.

Filmmaker Kaizad Gustad discovered the model in London and gave her a part in his film 'Boom'. It wasn't long beofre the acting bug bit Katrina who decided to take it up full time and move permanently to Mumbai. With her gorgeous face and hourglass figure, Katrina was flooded with modeling assignments from the minute she arrived. However, filmmakers were at first hesitant to sign her because of her linguistic shortcomings.

But Katrina is determined to make it big in Bollywood! She is taking Hindi and Kathak lessons to accomodate to the Bollywood ways. Her most treasured possession is a picture of her dancing, which was taken when she finished her 40-day training in Kathak (where she used to dance seven hours a day non-stop!!)

Katrina Kaif admits that she is very romantic person and dreams far too much of romance and love. She is extremely emotional. "When you are in love, the person you are involved with should mean everything to you..." she says. She also reveals that her biggest asset is not being afraid. "I don't get intimidated easily so there's not too many restrictions on what I can or can't do" she says.

But don't be fooled by the way she looks--she might wear bold outfits on the screen but is most comfortable in not so revealing clothes in at home. And the one thing she hates is make up. "I hate wearing make-up. When I leave my hair loose, I don't wear any make-up. I feel a lot more comfortable that way. I wish we didn't have to wear make-up.

Gorgeous actress Katrina Kaif is quite fond of playing chess. Katrina has been playing chess for years. But she rues the fact that not many people in Hindi film industry are passionate about the game.

While shooting for 'Namaste London' in Punjab, Katrina Kaif has faced a strange but funny situation. A cow was required for a scene. And after 2 days of shooting the unit members realized that the cow-owner had actually named his pet 'Katrina'. After this incident director Vipul Shah and co-star Akshay Kumar never left a chance of pulling her leg, for sure

Soon released Bollywood movie Namaste London , which saw a controversy over Katrina Kaif wearing a short skirt while shooting inside Ajmer Dargah, would be screened with the original shots taken there.

This was informed to the media by the film's director Vipul Amrutlal Shah. However, he added that he is still ready to re-shoot the scene if anyone comes out with any objection.

INDIA PAK Match

Bowl out

What a match it has been. Pakistan clawed back in the last three overs and the match will now be decided by a bowl out. Each team will nominate five players who will bowl at a set of stumps over 22 yards. Each team will have alternate attempts at hitting the stumps and the team with the most hits wins. it's like a penalty shoot-out in foot ball. In case there's a tie after the first round, the same five bowlers will have to have another go.

Shoaib Malik has won the toss and he has asked India to have the first go. Both teams are out there practising hitting the stumps.

How hard can it be to hit three stumps without a batsman in front of them? We'll soon find out.

India have nominated Sehwag, Uthappa, Sreesanth, Pathan and Harbhajan. It will be Gul, Tanvir, Arafat, Afridi and Asif for Pakistan.

Round 1
Sehwag is up first for India. Dhoni waits behind the stumps. Sehwag has a big grin on his face. Sehwag runs in, bowls flat and fast and hits the stumps.

Arafat gets ready for his turn. He bowls a full toss that misses off stump.

India lead 1-0 after the first round.

Round 2

Harbhajan bowls quick and straight and hits. He's delighted and celebrates like he's taken a wicket, or scored a penalty.

Gul runs in off a short run up and also misses the stumps. The Indians love it.

India lead 2-0 after the second round. Massive pressure on Pakistan.

Round 3

Robin Uthappa runs in, bowls seam up and knocks the stumps over. He takes off his cap and bows to the crowd.

Pakistan have to hit the stumps with all their three remaining chances to stay in the bowl-out. If India hit one more time, they will win.

Here comes Afridi and he fires it down leg side! India have won the bowl-out 3-0.

Amazing scenes at Kingsmead. It was like a football shootout and the Indians are celebrating fittingly. They won the match 3-0 through a bowl-out after the proper match ended in a thrilling tie!
